===============================================

Although owners frequently claim a cat attacking out of nowhere, cats frequently demonstrate small changes in body orientation before launching into an aggressive act. These postures may provide a hint to the cause of the violent behavior, as well as a much-needed warning before future assaults.

Defensive postures are used to make a cat appear smaller and to put herself in a defensive stance. Crouching, flattened ears, turning away from the person, hissing, swatting at you, heightened hackles, or a tucked head are examples of these postures.
