Chinese new year
February 14, 2010 is the Chinese New Year bringing in the Year of the Tiger. This is the Year of the metal Tiger which is symbolized by a white Tiger.
FUN AND INTERESTING FACTS:
White tigers are not a separate subspecies of tiger. There is only one tiger species and only two recognized subspecies in the world—the Continental (Panthera tigris tigris) and the Sunda (Panthera tigris sondaica). The color of the white tiger's fur is the result of a genetic mutation called leucism.

The liger is a hybrid offspring of a male lion and a female tiger. The liger has parents in the same genus but of different species. The liger is distinct from the similar hybrid called the tigon, and is the largest of all known extant felines.
SIZE:
The largest ligers often grow to lengths of more than 3.3 metres (10.8 feet) and weigh more than 400 kg (900 pounds); however, there are reports of some individuals weighing more than 1,000 kg (1 metric ton [about 2,200 pounds]).
HEIGHT:
about 4.5 ft tall
Height-wise, an adult liger is typically about 4.5 ft tall at the shoulder and 6 ft tall at the tips of the ears when standing. To sustain such a large body, the liger requires an average of 25 lbs of meat per day—more than double the diet of a typical lion or tiger in captivity.
CHARACTERISTICS:
The liger is the largest of the world's felines, known to grow up to 12 feet tall when standing on their hind legs. The liger is an enormous animal with a large muscular body and broad head. Ligers tend to have sandy or dark yellow fur which is covered in distinctive faint stripes inherited from their mother.
