(lamil), Godi Naser (Kannada).
Average length:--150 cm (4ft 11in)
Maximum length:-- 225 cm (71t 5in)
Identification: Its entire body is made up of
alternating thick yellow and
black bands with smooth
and glossy scales. The head
bears an inverted "v mark
while the tail tip is blunt and
rounded. The eyes are black.
Distribution:---Gadchiroli and Chandrapur
districts of Maharashtra, West
Bengal, Orissa, Assam, Bihar
and Arunachal Pradesh.
Habitat:---F'orestS, rocky areas and around
villages.
Food:---Other snakes but occasionally feeds
on rats and lizards.
Breeding behaviour:---The female lays 4-14 eggs around April. Newborn snakes are around 25-40 cm long.
Characteristics:--- It is nocturnal but often seen early morning basking near water bodies. It is extremely shy and rare to Iina.
