The Barbet, or French Water Dog, is a rare breed of medium-sized dog that was used in Europe by sailors, farmers, and waterfowl hunters. Barbets are not afraid to go into the water, they are excellent swimmers, hardy and have good search qualities. The name Barbet supposedly comes from the French word barbe, which means beard.
