On this special episode, host Kim Brophey and guest Simon Gadbois take a deep dive into the behavioral health situation for modern pet dogs in North America through the lenses of ethology and neuro-ethology. Simon is an ethologist and behavioral endocrinologist (and much more- do look into him - https://www.dal.ca/faculty/science/psychology_neuroscience/faculty-staff/our-faculty/simon-gadbois.html) with some incredibly insightful observations about canid behavior, and also a fellow parent who shares Kim's concern about the "captive" predicament shared by modern dogs and our kids. This is really interesting exploration of the inseparable relationship between nature and nurture for any species, and how the modern environment has so quickly evolved into one in which both of our species are so frequently struggling to navigate the modern life. Again, we're further convinced of just how much there is to consider beyond the operant paradigm in our work and lives with dogs!
