The lynx in this video is spraying a stump with urine. Like its close cousin the bobcat (Lynx rufus), the Canada Lynx (Lynx canadensis) marks its territory by spraying urine onto vertical surfaces. Tree stumps are often chosen. Scent marking allows them to communicate with each other without face to face conflict. The odor molecules probably communicate information about health, status, sexual readiness, etc. I found this spot by sniffing it out while tracking a lynx in Maine that appeared to pause at the stump. Lynx urine smells just like house cat urine but you have to get down on all fours and put your nose close to the stump because the smell doesn't carry very far. Rocketing snowshoe hares and the lower 2/3 of a moose also make an appearance. Browning Spec Ops Advantage trail camera.
