This is the gut-wrenching moment a cat falls three stories from a window sill after its owner intentionally kept it trapped there for over two days for peeing on a bed.
The shocking footage was filmed in the commune of Orly located in the southern suburbs of the French capital Paris on Tuesday 30th March.
Neighbours had noticed a cat named Woodie had become stranded on a small window sill which was initially thought to be an oversight on the part of the owner.
People tried to warn the owner of the cat’s situation but they were unable to get an answer from his door which prompted them to contact the authorities.
However, both the police and the firefighters refused to do anything about it leaving Woodie on the window sill for over two days while the neighbours feared for its life and well-being.
The window where the cat was trapped was reportedly facing south where exposure to the sun is at its strongest.
The incident also happened at a time when the region was experiencing long hours of strong sunlight and heat which reportedly battered the feline before its desperate attempt to jump from the window.
The video shows Woodie standing on a guardrail apparently trying to reach for the balcony next to him but loses its grip and plunges down three stories.
The cat fell a reported eight metres (26 feet) to the ground but incredibly did not suffer any serious injuries.
Local sources said the owner finally stepped out of his house to retrieve the feline but refused to take it to a veterinarian. He reportedly told neighbours he had intentionally locked the cat out of the window as punishment for peeing on the bed.
Alerted by his response, the animal rights group Action Protection Animale (APA) decided to investigate and found Woodie was kept locked inside the bathroom at his owner's home.
Members from the APA confiscated Woodie from the unnamed owner with the help of the police and filed an official complaint against the suspect for animal cruelty.
APA President Anne-Claire Chauvancy said Woodie is being kept at a home in the Paris area but refused to say more as owners sometimes try to steal their pets back despite their cruelty towards them.
The APA made a statement saying: “Woodie is safe today. And he will never be treated as an unwanted again.”
