Video clip of a 6 month of old female cat showing typical in-heat lordosis (mating posture). Many cat owners are concerned about the strange behaviour displayed by their cats when they come into heat (aka in-season). They often think there is something wrong with their cat and struggle to describe what is happening. We hope this video will help pet owners and veterinarians to identify the behaviour being described.
Common signs of a cat in heat:
1. Lordosis, flattening the front of the body so it is close to the ground while keeping their rear end high. Female cats will assume this position when ‘presenting’ themselves to a male, making it easier for a male to mate with them.
2. Increased vocalisation.
3. Increased affection often seen as rubbing up against owners and other surfaces.
4. Wanting to venture outdoors in search of a mate.
5. Increased grooming often focused around the genital area (perineum).
