Introducing: Cooper, Conner, Reggie, Ella Farn, Jenny, Princess
Please visit our website to learn what makes us so much different from a typical dog breeder, as well as why families pass by other breeders to travel across the country and bring home a puppy from Red Barn Cavaliers. https://www.redbarncavaliers.com
Missy's puppies are four weeks old! They are beginning to explore and play with each other. They have discovered rolling over and that they can paw at each other to get one's attention, which is leading to little puppy wrestling matches. Their personalities are beginning to shine!
Because they can see and hear, this is when we begin potty training. They have been moved to a pen which fits a litter pan. The purpose is for them to have enough room to feed and sleep, and then the litter pan for waste. That's because dogs prefer to potty and poop anywhere other than their sleeping space. For this reason, we provide them a spacious and cozy place to sleep and feed but not so much as to give them an additional spot to potty and poop that isn't the area designated for that purpose. This pan, compared to their sleeping space, is very appealing for them to eliminate waste. You may occasionally see us bringing the puppies over to the litter while encouraging them to urinate. The purpose of this exercise is to begin teaching them to associate the scent and feel of the pellets with urinating.
After about a week, when the puppies have learned to walk, you will see them to begin seeking out the litter to eliminate waste. The introduction to litter has gone very well. Each of the puppies have been showing preference to walk into the litter pan to do their business. For as young as they are, this is incredible progress! Throughout the day we have them visit the litter pan to potty them. It only takes them a few days to begin picking it up! When they turn four weeks old, we will move them out of our bedroom (where it is quiet and young pups can focus on feeding and growing) and into a more central location of the house where they will begin learning about day-to-day life and how to be part of a family. We will continue keeping families updated about their puppy's progress!
