In this interview, Jordan Armstrong Jr. shares his experiences serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, Panama, and the Persian Gulf War. He talks about his childhood in North Carolina and Baltimore, and being involved in the Boy Scouts of America for the majority of his life. He recalls wanting to go into the military after high school, completing jump school, combat training, and light weapons infantry training. He remembers nearly being called to invade Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He discusses his involvement in the Vietnam War including missions, training the Vietnamese Airborne, learning the language, and the war forcing him to "grow up." He describes aspects of his multiple tours of duty in Vietnam as an Intelligence Officer, performing across border reconnaissance, and recruiting people from other nations to join recon teams. Armstrong recalls the conditions of the war, the positions he held, his medical history due to Agent Orange, and his brother dying from it. He details his service in Panama and Desert Storm, his decision to retire from the military, and his return trips to Vietnam upon retirement.
