This persistent protective pooch has been fighting for the animal kingdom by sniffing out poachers who are threatening hundreds of endangered species. Two-year-old German Shepherd Ashley may look like a harmless mutt, but he’s actually spent his entire life training to sniff out criminals. He works at Thula Thula, a private game reserve in South Africa, and is the newest addition to the anti-poaching unit, joining them on foot patrols where they sweep for snares and guard the area. Anti-poaching dogs are working dogs and have a handler on a 24/7 basis. The dog will react to the handler’s commands and will not interact with other animals, instead solely trained to pick up the scent of humans.
