EP 7: Want to start a farm sanctuary?
Is it your dream to rescue and care for farm animals?!?!  As Hogs & Kisses has just opened this year, we know all about what it takes to start a farm sanctuary from the ground up! We interviewed three amazing people who are incredible influences in the farm sanctuary world.

Jill Tedeschi from Healthy Herd Consulting - Jill carries nearly a decade of farmed animal sanctuary experience, including eight years in shelter leadership.Spanning these years, Jill has been directly involved in the care decisions of more than 2,000+ individuals. She consults rescues and sanctuaries with all their needs. Visit her at healthyherdconsulting.com and she offers some free online training too.

Lenore Braford from Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge - Lenore Braford is the Founder, interim Executive Director, and Animal Care Director at the Refuge. Her drive to advocate for populations in need began in middle school when she began working with children with disabilities. That work continues today, but her circle of compassion was widened to include farm animals when she began to question how our society views and treats them. Support The Refuge at piedmontrefuge.org/ and they provide loads of information on veganism and community events in Pittsboro, NC.

Justin Van Kleeck from Microsanctuary Resource Center - Justin spends most of their time working at the Triangle Chicken Advocates sanctuary, which they and partner, Roz, founded in 2014, and which inspired them to start The Microsanctuary Movement together later that year. Though the microsanctuary model in many ways focuses on typically farmed species, any vegan home can be a microsanctuary when caring for animals who aren’t usually seen as “companions.” You can find their resources at microsanctuary.org.

Also we repeatedly mention an amazing resource called, The Open Sanctuary Project found at opensanctuary.org, throughout this episode that is a treasure trove of information for anyone wanting to start a sanctuary and those already dedicated to rescue or sanctuary efforts.
