Exotic cat. Exotic cats puzzle for kids and adults.
Some facts.
These cute, plush Exotic Shorthair cats were artificially bred in the 1960s by American breeders who crossed American Shorthairs and Persians
Origin story
Initially, the purpose of the experiment was to improve the quality of the wool of the domestic breed and diversify its color range, so the resulting “thick paws” with a flattened muzzle were not at all to the taste of the breeders. Only in 1966, American dog breeder Jane Martinck saw the potential in the new breed and proposed that the World Cat Association officially register it. By the way, the general public turned out to be simply fascinated by fluffy cats with a sweet face, and soon exotic cats became one of the most popular breeds in the world. It is interesting that initially they wanted to give the breed the name “sterling” (from English “high-quality silver”) because of their luxurious color, but then they decided to settle on “exotic shorthair”, which is true - cats with this color had never been seen before.
Description of the breed
Although exotics are very similar in appearance to their Persian ancestors, these two breeds have many significant differences. Representatives of the exotic breed have massive muscular bones, a wide chest and short powerful legs of the same length, so at first glance they look somewhat squat and awkward. The head is round, medium in size, with an upturned small nose and huge cheeks. Small ears stick out slightly forward; the eyes are huge, round and protruding, and the color depends on the coat. The tail is short and bushy, corresponding to the proportions of the body.
The calling card of exotics, of course, is their unusually thick, plush fur. The hairs reach a length of no more than two centimeters, while the cat has a very thick and dense undercoat. Exotics have a wide variety of colors: from white and cream to blue-black. There are both solid colors and bicolors and tricolors: red tabby, marbled, tortoiseshell...
Character
Exotics are also more similar in character to good-natured bumpkin Persians than to proud and independent American Shorthair cats. They are very affectionate and gentle, very attached to their owner. If the cat is hungry or wants to play, it will not howl throughout the apartment, but will begin to rub against your legs, meowing quietly and confidentially. Exotics get along well with small children, taking part in their games, and never show their irritation if they are cuddled too much. Despite their apparent clumsiness, cats love to play outdoor games: fetching a ball or hunting for a candy wrapper on a string. Exotic cats are very inquisitive and intelligent, so be prepared for the cat to explore every corner of the apartment. At the same time, they will never swing on the curtains or tear at the furniture with their claws, because they understand that this should not be done.
If you are a very busy person, often disappear at work or go on a business trip, make sure that your pet is not left alone. The cat may feel sad or even refuse to eat. At the same time, please note that exotics are very wary of strangers and other pets, so you should not give your cat for foster care to people who are strangers to it.
Education and training
Exotics are very smart and quick-witted, so it will not be difficult to accustom him to a tray, a scratching post, and even to water procedures. Since a cat reduces any task to a game, you can teach it a few simple tricks, but do not be surprised or offended if your pet prefers to sing you a song, comfortably stretched out next to you on the sofa. The main rule is no punishment or rude intonation.
