Feeding Behaviour of Red Avadavat (Amandava amandava)

The red avadavat (Amandava amandava), red munia or strawberry finch, is a sparrow-sized bird of the family Estrildidae. It is found in the open fields and grasslands of tropical Asia and is popular as a cage bird due to the colourful plumage of the males in their breeding season. It breeds in the
Indian Subcontinent in the monsoon season.

A native of South and South-East Asia, from Pakistan to Indochina, north locally to southern China, and also on several islands in Indonesia, the attractively plumaged Red Avadavat has been quite widely introduced in parts of southern Europe, elsewhere in Asia (e.g. Japan), as well as parts of Arabia, and on several Pacific and Indian Ocean islands.
