The Foldex's history began in 1992 in Quebec, Canada, when they first appeared on the scene. Because of its adorable appearance, the species was a huge hit when it first appeared in cat exhibitions. A breeder called Jeanne Barrette is credited with most of the Foldex's future growth. In 2010, the Canadian Cat Association gave Foldex full championship title.

The Persian is an ancient breed. It will come as no surprise to those who like this exquisite cat that the longhaired beauty originated in the birthplace of civilization: Mesopotamia, which was subsequently known as Persia and is now modern-day Iran. The breed's long hair was most likely the product of a spontaneous mutation, and its unusual look drew the attention of Pietro Della Valle, a 17th-century Italian nobleman and globe traveler who is credited with bringing the first longhaired cats to Europe in 1626.
