Cats and kittens move, twitch, and meow in sleep because they dream during REM sleep. A dreaming brain can trigger leg kicks, whisker twitches, tail flicks, and voice-like noises as they “talk” in their dream. Kittens may show more activity due to longer REM periods and higher energy. If they wake calmly, it’s normal. If you see severe, distressing thrashing or confusion, check with a vet.
