The German Shepherd Dog (GSD) is a relatively modern breed of dog with its origin dating to the year 1899. GSDs have a double coat which is dense with a thick undercoat. Regarding the coat, there are two variants: medium and long. The long hair is from a recessive gene and therefore more rare than German Shepherds with the short hair. German Shepherds are moderately active and well known for a willingness to learn. They also have a significant eagerness to have a purpose. Most people know that German Shepherd Dogs are protective over their family members.
