Happy Birthday, Detroit Tiger!

(2023) Happy Birthday, Detroit! Rescued in 2006 from a roadside zoo in Kansas where he spent the first year of his life living in a barn. Ever since, Detroit has been frolicking and stalking in his large, grassy habitats at the Refuge. Today, Detroit resides down at Rescue Ridge, and you can visit him when you book a private caravan tour!

Detroit is always happy to play with his boomer ball and barrel toys, enjoys his pool in the warmer months, and will greet his keepers with a friendly chuff! He now spends his days in Rescue Ridge which is a private area and retirement community for our older animals.

Rescue Story: On March 23, 2006, Turpentine Creek received a plea for help from Lightning Ranch Wildlife Preserve, in Auburn, Kansas. Their county had passed a ban on exotic animal ownership and the allotted time to relocate their animals was fast approaching. Detroit was being housed in a barn at the Lightening Ranch while awaiting his relocation. He was rescued along with two other tigers, Styx and Bombay, who were being held in a defunct breeding facility just north of Salina, Kansas. Detroit made the trip without any issues and adjusted well to his new surroundings at TCWR.
