Hello! This is another high-speed video to share the process of making a realistic watercolor portrait. This is a quick one, but check out my other videos with some commentary.
This commissioned portrait is of Miss Honey, a large Maine Coon cat that currently lives in Amsterdam. She was extremely fun to paint with that luscious fur.
I paint in many sizes, but this one is on 9in x 12in paper. Each portrait takes me many hours and layers, which is why I always do these videos in high-speed. I have other videos that have instructions if you are interested in learning my style.

My process requires lots of layers with subtle color variations and values, gradually using less and less water in my paint mixtures as the layers go. I do paint wet into wet a lot of the time, and then soften the edges with a clean damp brush. Hopefully you can see some of the process within these short minutes!
Please contact me if interested in a portrait for yourself!
Materials used:
Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolor Paint
Colors used in various mixes: prussian blue, ultramarine, burnt sienna, alizarin crimson, payne's gray, yellow ochre, winsor yellow
Arches 140lb cold-pressed, acid-free watercolor paper
Various brushes, my favorite is a set of kolinsky brushes in size 8 and 6 from Billy Showell. I use a small size 1 or 0 for the details.
