The Tiger (Panthera tigris), the biggest member of the cat family (Felidae), is only surpassed in power and ferocity by the lion (Panthera leo). As a result, tigers are endangered across their entire range, which runs from the Russian Far East through sections of North Korea, China, India, and Southeast Asia to the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. The Siberian or Amur tiger (P. Tigris Altaica) is the biggest, with a maximum length of 4 meters (13 feet) and a maximum weight of 300 kilograms (660 pounds). The Indian tiger (P. Tigris), sometimes known as the Bengal tiger, is the most populous and accounts for around half of the entire tiger population. Males are bigger than females and may reach a shoulder height of approximately 1 meter and a length of roughly 2.2 meters, excluding a tail of around 1 meter; their weight is 180–250 kg (400–550 pounds).
