Every year for a weekend in mid-February, people from around the world take the time to observe birds in their favorite local parks or in their own backyards. Known as the Great Backyard Bird Count, this event is one of the oldest and largest citizen science projects, and the number and kinds of birds seen helps scientists better understand birds’ winter habits.
Join us as we welcome guest speakers from the Kensington Metropark Nature Center in preparation for this year’s count. Learn how to identify some of Michigan’s most common backyard species as well as tips for bird feeding, viewing, and how you can contribute your own backyard bird observations.
