Did you know that Siamese cats are one of the oldest known breeds of cats, if not the oldest? Discover some amazing facts about Siamese cats, such as the numerous beautiful color patterns these beauties exhibit.

Characteristics of the Siamese Cat
There's a reason Siamese cats are among the Top 10 Cat Breeds on Animal Planet. These creatures are extremely stunning and have a lovely temperament.

The base coat of seal points is a warm fawn tint, with dark, seal brown points.
Chocolate points offer beautiful chocolate brown points on a creamy background.
The base coat of blue points is bluish white, with deep blue-gray points.
Lilac points have a white base coat that is overlaid with pinkish-gray points.
There are red point Siamese, however the color is not recognized by many breed associations since it is not considered conventional.
It's worth noting that all Siamese kittens are born white, with the points developing later. Most Siamese will not reach their full color depth until they are more than a year old.

Siamese Cat Temperament
The severe appearance of this breed may make one to assume that they are rather stand-offish in disposition, however this is not the case. Siamese cats are often people-oriented, and they are more likely to be interested in whatever you are doing. They like being hugged and touched.

This breed, in addition to being friendly, can be rather loud, nearly giving the sensation that you're being talked to in "cat." If a Siamese wants something, it will find a method to make you understand.

Taking Care of Your Siamese Cats
When compared to the grooming requirements of long-haired breeds such as Himalayans, Persians, and Maine Coon Cats, the Siamese requires relatively less.

Brush Your Cat With Your Fingers
Brushing a Siamese cat's coat may actually harm its color and texture. To remove loose hair, "finger brushing" is a preferable option. Simply moisten your hands and smooth them over your cat's fur. Loose hairs will accumulate on your fingertips and may be cleaned with a paper towel prior to washing.

Baths are seldom required for Siamese cats.
Bathing is seldom necessary. If you don't want to give your cat a water bath, try corn starch instead. Spread it all over the cat, taking careful not to get it in its eyes, and gently massage it in with your fingertips. You may brush it away gently with a soft bristle brush or wipe it away with a chamois.

Pay Special Attention to Your Ears
This breed's ears are supposed to be show stoppers. If you want to make them wider, consider removing the longer hairs immediately within the baseline. This will provide the sense of larger breadth while also improving air circulation.

The National Siamese Cat Club claims that the breed originated in Thailand, previously known as Siam, and that this is where the cat earned its name. The breed is said to have been bred under the protection of Siam's king, and the Siamese was transported to England in 1881, where it quickly became popular. Americans quickly started bringing the new breed back to the United States, and it quickly became one of the most popular breeds ever.

Siamese Cats Come in Two Varieties
Show Siamese and traditional Siamese are two very different varieties of Siamese that fanciers commonly classify. The CFA standard stated above was substantially closer to the original Siamese brought from Siam. During the post-World War II breeding frenzy, a cobbier Siamese with a rounder, "apple head" started to appear. This is thought to be the consequence of crossbreeding the Siamese with other cat breeds, but since this form has become so common, many aficionados think it is the original type of the breed. Since then, show breeders have worked tirelessly to conserve the traditional Oriental Siamese type and reestablish it as the breed's rightful type.

Is a Siamese Cat the Right Cat for You?
This type is known to develop strong attachments to its human partners, so unless you have a lot of time to devote to one, you should select a different breed. These cats are also fairly active, so think about whether you'd like a cat that naps all day or one who is always up for a game of chase-the-mouse.

Siamese cats are active and friendly, and are sometimes described as acting more like dogs than cats. If you're searching for a low-maintenance cat with a big personality, this is the breed for you.
