Meet Rip and Rev. The Lower Mainland RCMP integrated police dog service hosted a meet and greet with two canine officers-in-training who were part of last year's name-the-puppy contest on Tuesday.
Handlers, Const. Teresa Carter and Const. Ross Findlay, were at Surrey RCMP headquarters as a reminder to kids to get their name suggestions in soon. The deadline for online entries is March 16.
This year, all name suggestions must start with an 'S'; only one entry each from kids age four to 14 living in Canada will be accepted. The name must be one or two syllables and a maximum of nine letters.
Thirteen German shepherd puppies are expected to be born in 2023 at the police dog training centre in Innisfail, Alta. Every year, the RCMP opens up the contest looking for original and creative names the dogs will carry through their policing careers.
Winners get a photo of the pup they named, a police dog plush toy and an RCMP water bottle.
