We adopted a part ocicat kitten (Siamese, American Shorthair mackerel tabby and Abyssinian heritage) from Fancy Cats Rescue through Petfinder.com. I knew from the moment I saw his sweet little face, beautiful amber eyes and protective paw wrapped around his red Sparkle Ball toy, that I loved tiny striped Cricket! His right front leg had been injured by a cruel boy who had beaten Cricket with a stick and the monstrous brat had actually killed the rest of poor Cricket's family, right in front of him. Our lad was a charming, energetic and athletic kitty, with a true zest for life. His personality was very much like a dog's in many ways. When calligraphy clients visited my home studio, the sociable little man would often emerge on cue to greet the guests, bounding down the stairs at full speed, despite his gimpy leg! He used his tail as a balancing rudder of sorts, always holding it at a jaunty, forward angle over his back. :) He reminded me of a ring-tailed lemur. His constant loyal companion was petite "little sister" marble tabby Boleyn. She was adopted the same time as Cricket, from Home Alone Rescue. (Against all odds, it appeared that both kitties originally were saved from near-certain death at a high-kill shelter in Forestville, Maryland by two separate kindly rescuers!)

Cricket was born in the Spring of 2008 (we think he was an Aries) and he passed of a bad ear infection on "Buddy Holly Day" (February 3, 2020). We miss him terribly and hope to see our precious guy again some fine day over The Rainbow Bridge.
