Modern Srilanka a nature lovers paradise
This was my second visit to Srilanka after an interval of more than 2 decades. Last time I was there was in the year 1999 I think. That time the situation in Srilanka was really really scary. As I came out from the airport I saw military personnel behind sand pits brandishing automatic machine guns. Even around the hotel that we stayed in as one walked out you could see armed military keeping guard. But now all that has changed and changed completely - after 2009 all this change started happening and the country has now got a completely new look. As you come out of the Colombo airport you are greeted with a look that portrays a modern world country.Fabulous roads , expressways , lush green countryside and all the rest as you drive from the Bandaranaike International Airport to their capital Colombo city. I stayed in the Grand Oriental hotel which was established in 1837 by the British rulers then. A huge heritage property that still stood with all its glory overlooking the Colombo Port. I was there for about 12 days and travelled quite a bit to Galle , Hikkadua, and the Thissaramaya , Yala , Udawalawe , and around I was really really awestruck by the serenity , and the natural beauty of a great Island Country that would stake claim to be a great tourism destination in our modern world.
