This is just what the Internet needs; another cat video. Poet the Kitty was my editing buddy until October 1, 2022, when she went to kitty heaven. We were never sure how old she was. She was left at a pet store in Dallas, Texas. Her previous human no longer wanted her. Miss Poe, or Poey, as we called her, was a Donskoy Sphynx (aka Russian Hairless) cat.

My daughter saw Poet on a Facebook group that tries to find a new home for abandoned Sphynx cats. Nobody wanted Poe, so my daughter arranged for a pet courier to drive her from Dallas to Atlanta. She had 14 abscessed teeth when she arrived. She had no claws and she couldn’t seem to meow either. It seems that someone had removed her vocal chords.

My wife and daughter took Poe to the veterinarian and they pulled the abscessed teeth. So Miss Poe joined our family. After a month or two she started to make what sounded like an attempt to meow. The vet said that she probably remembered meowing and that she was vibrating the scar tissue as best as she could.

Somehow, as time progressed, Miss Poe chose me as her human. But, when she wanted the fireplace lit, she would look up at my wife and then look at the fireplace. Having no fur, the Sphynx cats are aleays seeking warmth.

Poey and I had a morning ritual when I was home. I would feed Poey her favorite wet food, which was shrimp and fish. After her breakfast, she would sit with me while I drank my coffee. Occasionally she would bathe while resting in my arms, as shown in this video. Sometimes we would play a game called, “Bad Ole Putty Tat”, where Poey would growl and swat at me like she was going to chew me up, all while I called her “bad ole putty tat!” But she only had two small teeth left, after the others were pulled. She couldn’t hurt me if she tried. But, if I let her win, she wouldn’t actually bite down. And sometimes Poet snoozed on my chest while I edited videos. How can one have such a connection with one of God’s little creatures like that? Poey was special, and that is certain.

We estimate that Miss Poe was around 6 or 7 years old when she joined our family. She lived with us for about the same amount of time. The vet told us that her breed lives to approximately 13 years. She passed away from kidney failure. The vet said that is common.

Poey was lying on her back in my arms as the doctor prepared to give her the injection. My wife was on my left. Just before the doctor pushed the needle into the IV, Miss Poe stretched her neck and looked at my wife as if to say, “Thank you for rescuing me!”

I have some video of us playing “Bad Ole Putty Tat!” If you want to see it, post in the comments and I will try to locate it.

I know this is a departure from the standard content for this channel, but I thought I would explain why some of the other videos end with a photo of Miss Poe.
