With every animal that comes our way and is in need, our hearts break. Our hearts break for the suffering they have been through, and oftentimes, their pain doesn’t end when they come through our doors. It’s quite common for an animal to continue battling whatever fight they were facing prior to being rescued. This is the sad reality of Blazee’s story.

A beautiful, Savannah cat named Blazee came to us after his owner surrendered him, knowing he deserved a better life than what he could provide. Only a short time after being placed with his foster, he began to crash. His foster mom came home from a long shift one night to find him covered in his own feces. It had been clear Blazee had not moved all day, and had stopped eating.

After rushing him to the hospital and having every test possible performed on him, we came out with a $2,500 bill and no diagnosis. That being said, Blazee was extremely underweight. In the foster’s care, he had lost 4 pounds, going from an already too-low weight of 10 pounds to 6.

Savannah cats can be very sensitive creatures, and after being placed in a new foster home where Blazee could be continuously monitored, it was learned that he will only eat if he has someone present in the same room with him. We believe this is how he lost so much weight and what could have led to his crash. At 2 or 3 years old, Blazee should be about 20 pounds, so he went from very underweight to anorexic.

His new foster family plans to adopt Blazee once he is all healed up, making their new title, “Blazee’s foster-to-adopt family!” There are aspects of Blazee’s story that could have been avoided, however, mistakes happen and we do not blame anyone who is trying to do their best to save a life. Rescue life is hard, and often it’s not required, expected, or possible to be by an animal’s side 24/7!

We are excited that Blazee is on his way to recovery and will live a happy life, however we are stuck with some hefty vet bills. We ask that if you can, please donate to his medical care and recovery supplies. He especially needs Nutri-Cal to help him gain weight and Pet-A-Lyte to keep him hydrated. Thank you for your kindness!
