Appearance
We can say that these are miniature monkeys, whose body length barely reaches 0.4 meters, with a body weight of about 0.7-1.2 kilograms. It should be noted that males are always larger in relation to females. The main color of the coat can be gray-green or dark olive, and also lie within these shades. In the area of the ears, on the sides of the body, in the area of the throat, as well as in the area of the eyes, there are white colors. The white edging around the eyes, as well as the black edging around the nose and mouth, generally create the outlines of a kind of mask called the “dead head”.

The body of the monkey is covered with short hair, and the area of \u200b\u200bthe muzzle, where the nostrils and lips of the animal are located, is practically devoid of hair. How long does saimiri live
When the living conditions are comfortable enough, these monkeys could live in their natural environment for at least one and a half decades, since when kept in captivity, these animals easily exchange two decades. Keeping in captivity is associated with some difficulties, as these monkeys do not tolerate climate change well. The European climate is not suitable for these monkeys. They do not take root even in South America, after they fall into other climatic habitats. Therefore, saimiri are practically not kept in European zoos.

The actual life expectancy of saimiri in the natural environment is somewhat less, as they are susceptible to disease, parasites, and predators.

Where does it live
This type of monkey is found mainly in the territories of South America, mainly in the territories of the central and northern parts. The southern boundaries of the habitat pass through the territory of Bolivia, Peru and Paraguay, with the exception of mountainous areas. Their natural habitat is associated with the rugged forest zones of the tropics, which border on the banks of rivers. They spend almost all their time in the crowns of trees, and only occasionally come down to the ground.

What does it eat
The diet of these miniature monkeys consists of plant and animal foods. Monkeys eat:

Grasshoppers, butterflies and ants.
