Galiff Street is a famous pet market that starts early in the morning 5 am every Sundays and continues up till late afternoon 5 pm. Located at a stone-throw distance from Shyambazar 5-point crossing, it is considered as a paradise for the pet lovers. This street offers a different variety of rabbits, albino rats, guinea pigs, dogs, fishes, birds and flower plants. Flowers and plants of rare and exotic varieties are sold here in this market. This market was initially situated in Hatibagan during the British era, however, later it shifted to this place due to the space constraint there. Galiff Street is not only the oldest pet market in Kolkata but also in India.
