This cat gets its name from its folded ears which are caused by a mutated dormant gene. The Scottish fold was discovered in a farm barn near Coupar Angus in 1961. A cat named Susie was discovered by a farmer in his barn with an unusual fold in the middle of her ears. When Susie gave birth some of her kittens had folded ears. Not all Scottish fold’s kittens have folded ears. Those without folds are called Scottish straights.
