It was really surprising Max reacted in this way because he used to love foster kittens. With his advanced age he has been more on edge and hesitant with things. I think due to his impaired vision he feels vulnerable. This is why we always keep the kittens separate from the cats so that the resident cats can relax in their own safe spaces. Also at the beginning most foster kittens carry diseases that we don't want to spread to our resident cats. Once we know they are clear of that then they can meet them if they want to.
*I volunteer with a rescue and these kittens will all be fixed and adopted into loving homes when old enough :) They won't be able to breed and to contribute to the overpopulation and euthanasia of kittens because of the lack of fosterers, adopters, and resources.
