Kittens are typically weaned and started with their new families between 7 and 9 weeks of age. The post weaning period through the first year of life is a critical time for development. It is important for the veterinary team, cat fancier, and the pet owner to provide a strong nutritional foundation to help to support the growth and development of the kitten throughout this demanding period. This presentation will review the nutritional assessment, the key nutrients for a healthy kitten, and how to feed to achieve healthy growth, optimize trainability and immune function, and minimize obesity.
