Let me introduce you to Calvin! He is the definition of a fun-loving, goofy boy who just wants to be everyone’s best friend. It may be his personality or his age but my favorite thing when I met Calvin was seeing how engaged he is. From the way he interacts with people to his curiosity, this boy is all in and fully present. Sometimes the goofy and fun ones are only that, not much else going on, but not Calvin he is ready to learn and make connections. A mildly hot Texas day had his body feeling a little different but that’s to be expected, we were feeling the same way. That heat did help us see that Calvin loves the water! If he is anything like my bull terrier, he likes it but swimming without a life jacket will prove that they must be made of rocks. In other words, they don’t necessarily swim, water is more for a leisurely cool down.
In rescue we cannot guarantee age or breed but some things speak for themselves, like that head. We believe Calvin is a bull terrier mix, a darn cute one, and he is estimated to be just over 1.5 years old. The perfect age if you ask us! A great base of skills and perfectly ready to learn more. Some good playful energy with none of the puppy energy.
When it comes to other dogs, Calvin is social and playful, but he’s still figuring out how to introduce himself properly, a common quality with the bullyish breeds in general. With a structured first meeting, he does great and takes cues well. He learns quickly and checks in with his people often, showing an eagerness to be guided. Calvin’s ideal home would include a another pup, one with a similar stamina to him- quick bursts of play followed by long stretches of rest and relaxation. As for cats in the home, Calvin showed a lot of signs of potential towards being cat-tolerant but we cannot say with enough confidence that he will be. If you have a cat and are interested, do not hesitate to apply. We are happy to explore that further to ensure it was an accurate read of his interest/intentions. For now we would consider a cat-free home the safest but we can see potential with guidance and boundaries.
Calvin is very people-oriented and loves attention, my favorite type! This quality makes him a great companion material for an individual, a couple or a family with older kids, 10+ would be his favorite! Older kids understand and most importantly are steady on their legs, so when the zoomies attack no one has to worry about being knocked over. Calvin has great basic leash skills, comfortable on leash, a steady pace, checks in often, with moments of occasional distraction or the classic inability to walk straight and instead into your leg. Nothing a handful of treats and a little patience cant fix. If Calvin were living in an apartment setting and all potty breaks were on-leash, the need to master those skills may be more urgent than if he is living home-with-a-yard life and is a tag-along pal for after dinner strolls. His potential for perfection is immeasurable, and even if he stayed just like he is, he is quite the catch!
If you’re looking for a dog with personality, charm, and a little bit of lovable doofiness, Calvin is your guy. He is ready to be someones perfect companion with promises of laughter and all the love you could need from your best-dog. If you know Calvin is yours, apply today!
