Ozzie & Harriet Osprey Live Stream Cam 4/3/21

Ozzie and Harriet are the parents of Maximus. These Ospreys arrived to our home in Belleair Florida back in December and were looking for a place to nest. They attempted to build a nest on the dock pathway, well that is not going to work. So I ended up building them a platform over the boat lift. They started building their nest 10 minutes later (literally).

They parents are hard to tell apart but I have figured it out. Ozzie generally stands on his left talon as I think he has an injury on his right talon and he is smaller than Harriet. As for the sex of Maximus, we do not know. It will be 2-3 years before we would know. When his adolescent feathers are fully replaced with adult ones is really the only way to find out. (as well as when he is with a mate, the larger is generally the female)

As soon as it was completed Harriet laid 3 eggs which hatched around Feb 6th. Maximus was the first born followed by Louise and Horatio.

The sad truth to Birds of Prey and the "pecking order", Maximus was the lone survivor. This was observed by the parents and they did not step in to intervene. As much as we wanted to go help Louise and Horatio, we could only watch.

Us as human beings we are compassionate and understand man's basic urge is to survive. Survival for ourselves and our fellows. That is our basic instinct. Even though these are wild birds of prey, they felt like family to us as they are just 100' outside our kitchen window. They are our family and we were devastated watching the brutality of the wild.

Max is building his strength day by day and working his 5' wingspan more and more. He just started eating on his own a few days ago, although we thing he prefers to be fed.

I try to keep the channel as Live Feed and running same feed day by day and my software fails from time to time and the feed drops and ends the stream.

Pending on the sunset, around that time I like to pan the camera towards the sunset and allow others who are not on the water, enjoy the magic hour before the darkness falls into black ink of night.
