The camera pole shakes and calls are heard before the unringed female followed by Ossi arrive on the nest at 07.50. They both act defensively and give alarm / warning calls, while Ossi mantles, then both depart at 07.52. It's the same female from 28th and 25th July, see those visits here: https://youtu.be/1xYQpnsWRa0 ( 28th) and https://youtu.be/pmBHiww5kuw (25th), great to see Ossi appears to be pairing up with her as they've been seen together on several occasions.

With many thanks to Satakunta Osprey project and nestcam.eu for allowing me to clip bits off their livestreams. All footage copyright https://www.nestcam.eu/ watch live here: https://www.saaksilive.fi/live/sataku...

From the Satakunta Osprey website:

What is known about Ossi?
Nest #1 is located in the Satakunta region in Western Finland. Ospreys have nested there since 2005. Camera surveillance at the nest began in 2017 and throughout the follow-up, Ossi and Alma were the resident pair. The male, Ossi, has inhabited the nest since 2014. He has a ring on his right leg and according to the ringing data he hatched in Karkku, Sastamala in 2009. Alma, the female, didn’t have a ring and therefore her age and hatching location are unknown, it's not possible to assess Alma's age, for example, on the basis of plumage characteristics. However, based on data from previous nesting sites, indirect conclusions can be drawn about Alma’s age.

Ossi was first seen at the nest in 2014. There is no definite information as to whether Alma was Ossi's mate at that time. However, it is known that in 2012-13 there was still a different female in the nest, whose mate is again uncertain. It's therefore theoretically possible for Alma to have been the resident female since 2014 at the earliest. At that time, there was only one chick, which could be explained by the inexperience of the young female, but there is no evidence of this and there may be other reasons for the one-chick year. The year 2017, when there were three chicks, is the first year Alma is definitely known to have been the resident female. Successfully raising three chicks on a normal schedule suggests that Alma is not quite inexperienced, and it can therefore be concluded that if Alma had started breeding at the age of 4 right away in 2014, she would have been 11 years old at the time of her death on 25th June 2021.

In 2019 Alma and Ossi’s nest failed due to a Goshawk predating the three nestlings. Nevertheless, the pair returned the following year and raised three fledglings. Since 2017 Alma and Ossi have raised a total of nine fledglings, including 2021 chick SRS who survived the tragedy on 25th June which killed Alma and the other two chicks, was relocated to another nest and fledged successfully.
